Police try but cannot stop all distracted driving accidents

Over Labor Day weekend, police in Maryland were out in force looking for distracted drivers. Their goal was to prevent distracted driving-related accidents and to make those who were not paying attention aware of the seriousness of their actions. Distracted driving is a big problem in this state, and law enforcement officials are doing what they can to address it. Unfortunately, they cannot be everywhere at all times, so distracted driving-related accidents will continue to happen until all drivers choose to pay full attention when behind the wheel.

These things lead to distracted driving accidents

Distracted driving is a significant problem in Maryland and across the country. One does not have to be on the road for very long to see at least one person who is simply not paying attention when behind the wheel. Distracted driving accidents happen every single day, and it is the following things that lead to these events.

Did a distracted driver cause you to suffer a spinal cord injury?

It is impossible to drive anywhere in Maryland without seeing another driver not paying attention to the road. Distracted drivers are everywhere and they are responsible for far too many people suffering serious injuries -- such as spinal cord injuries. Anyone who has suffered catastrophic injuries due to the actions of a distracted driver may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses.

Distracted driving accidents a hot topic in the month of April

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Every year, in this state, distracted driving accidents contribute to over 28,000 injuries. In hopes of spreading the word about the dangers of distracted driving, Maryland police and the Department of Transportation will be running the Park the Phone campaign in an effort to get drivers to put their phones away and focus on the road.

Pet-related distracted driving accidents

Pet lovers in the state of Maryland often drive with their animals in their cars. It is not uncommon to see people behind the wheel with dogs sitting on their laps or sitting in the front passenger seats. Obviously, there are times when taking pets out of the home is necessary, but they can be extremely distracting to their owners who are supposed to be focusing on the road. They may even cause their owners to crash. When pet-related distracted driving accidents occur, the victims of these events may be entitled to pursue compensation for their losses through legal means.

Maryland distracted driving accidents: A look at the numbers

Between the years 2013 and 2017, there were over 56,000 distracted driving-related car crashes in the state of Maryland. It has been reported that people suffered injuries in nearly 19,000 of those events. Distracted driving accidents are a real problem in this state and across the country.

Distracted driving accidents are a common occurrence in Maryland

Every day, distracted drivers are seen on Maryland roads. They are seen texting, talking on their cellphones, putting on makeup, eating or interacting with passengers -- among other things. Sadly, a number of these drivers end up causing accidents that leave others injured or dead. The victims of distracted driving accidents or -- in the event of fatality -- their loved ones may seek compensation for their losses.

Those injured in distracted driving accidents may seek relief

You were going about your day just like you usually do when, while out driving your car your vehicle was struck by a driver who was not paying attention. Distracted driving accidents are a problem in the state of Maryland and all across the country. If you suffered injuries in such an accident, you may seek relief for your losses.
