A tragic accident in Maryland left three children dead and their parents in critical condition. In the blink of an eye, car accidents can change families' lives forever. The parents in this case will be left with emotional, financial and physical damages that they may never overcome.
On Dec. 30, 2018, at approximately 9:40 p.m., the family was in their car, waiting at a light in Oxon Hill when they were rear-ended by a pickup truck. The force of impact caused a chain-reaction crash between the victims' car and the two vehicles in front of it. The pickup came to a stop on top of the family's car, killing the three children. The parents were transported to an area hospital where they currently remain. One other driver was also taken to a medical facility for the treatment of minor injuries.
According to reports, investigators believe that the driver responsible for this incident was driving while impaired. Sobriety testing was completed on scene. This individual was taken into custody and later released. Charges are pending as the investigation is ongoing.
Drunk driving is a major concern in Maryland and is the cause of numerous car accidents every year. Police are doing their best to remove impaired drivers from the road; unfortunately, they cannot be everywhere at all times. While nothing can replace the children whose lives were senselessly taken in this event, their parents can seek compensation to help them cover the financial losses that have resulted from this tragedy. With the assistance of legal counsel, wrongful death and personal injury claims can be filed against the driver responsible in an effort to seek fair and full compensation.
